A beekeeping presentation was held at Verkeerderkill park in Pine Bush, New York on July 16, 2013. A special invitation by park officials for BOS to come and talk to children was scheduled to expand the knowledge of pollinators to the public. About 70 children and a very interested group of counselors were in attendance. All attendees ignored the mornings high temperature to listen to the story of the honey bee. Wide eyes and a steady flow of questions were the order of the day. Speaker Tom Hutt, who represents Beekeepers of Shawangunk, demonstrated equipment and fashioned pictures in the minds of the children who responded with energy only possessed by the young. As Tom said after the event “It was one of the most energetic beekeeping meetings that I have ever had the privilege of attending”. A special thanks to the Verkeerderkill park officials for including Beekeepers of Shawangunk in their summer program this year.
